General Summary:
Primarily responsibility is to prepare job site for underground construction. Heavy manual labor including pot-holing, digging bore pits, ground restoration, and site clean-up. Also will assist with placing conduit and fiber, and building entrance work.
Essential Job Functions:
Locate existing utilities by means of air or hydro vac, or hand dig. Backfill as appropriate.
Ability to haul tools and heavy equipment, dump vac trucks, and fill trucks with water
Ability to, or willingness to learn how to, operate heavy equipment
Restore ground conditions after excavation is complete; includes sod and sidewalks
Assist with trenching around utilities, placing buried conduit, and blowing fiber
Assist with building entrance work; including accessing false ceilings and crawl spaces
Follow established safety rules on job site, to and from job site, and uses common sense in maintaining a safe environment for self, team members, customers, and public
Capable and willing to work outdoors in all types of weather with moderate to loud noise levels
Must be able to work overtime and travel as needed
Effectively function and communicate in a professional manner
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience with underground construction
Skills in operating various vehicles and construction equipment
Skills in reading various construction documents including maps, staking sheets, and manuals
Ability to sit, stand, crouch, reach, and lift for long periods of time
Ability to use full-range of motion in fingers, hand, and wrists to operate necessary equipment
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships
Knowledge of basic computer operations including Microsoft Office Suite
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 1-year utility construction experience
Valid Class A CDL license with tanker endorsement
Meet all DOT requirements including physical and drug test
